10-yr-old drowns in Sirhind Canal

A 10-year-old boy drowned in the Sirhind canal, near Janta Nagar, on Saturday evening. The incident took place when the deceased, along with a friend, was taking a bath in the canal.

Workers of city-based NGO Sahara Jansewa reached the spot on getting information and jumped into the canal to save the boy. After taking him out of the canal, they took him to the civil hospital, where his treatment was started, but he could not be saved. The identity of the kid is yet to be ascertained. Eyewitnesses said the deceased was accompanied by a person while taking bath but the latter ran away from the spot after the child drowned.
