108 Engineer Regiment holds blood donation camp

A blood donation camp was organised by 108 Engineer Regiment – ‘Shatrunash’ at the Bathinda Military Station as a run-up to its golden jubilee year celebrations.

The camp, which was conducted with the support of nursing assistants and medical authorities of the Civil Hospital, Bhatinda, saw an enthusiastic turnout right from the opening hours.

The camp was conducted with an aim to create awareness on the importance of sharing blood to save lives.

To ensure a good turnout, the donation centre was set up by the hospital authorities on the regiment premises in the military station.

‘Shatrunashees’ volunteered to donate blood in huge numbers and contributed 110 units of blood, donated by officers, JCOs, sappers and their families.

The initiative was flagged off as the first event in the run up to events planned for the golden jubilee celebrations 2015-2016 of 108 Engineer Regiment.

The distinguished Shatrunash regiment is renowned for its endeavour in providing exemplary and selfless service towards nation building; be it flood relief operations in Bihar or the earthquake relief and rescue operation in Bhuj.

The rich history of the regiment stands unparallel. On March 31, 2016, the Regiment will complete its 50 glorious years.

Inaugurating the camp, Neha Nair, wife of Lt Col Madhu Nair, Second-in-Command, 108 Engineer Regiment, said: “Blood can’t be manufactured as other things can be. It can only be donated to save precious lives.”

To mark the success of the event, Col Anurag Tyagi, Commanding Officer, 108 Engineer Regiment, expressed gratitude and presented a memento to the medical staff of the Civil Hospital and appreciated their cooperation and medical assistance.
