The traffic police recently launched a drive against illegal auto-rickshaws plying in the city and issued around 200 challans to the violators.
These auto-rickshaws faced traffic police action for not complying with the norms of the Motor Vehicle Act. Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Gurmeet Singh, SP (Traffic), said they had found a number of auto-rickshaws from the adjoining districts plying here without complete documents such as registration certificate (RC), permits and were carrying more passengers than the capacity.
After the strict action from the traffic police, auto-rickshaws drivers have visited his office and urged him to provide them time to complete the documentation work, he said, adding that they had been given time till March 25.
Besides, the traffic police have also directed them not to carry passengers more than their capacity and wear uniforms, failing which strict action would be taken against them.
