A three-day Punjabi University Inter-College Boxing Championship kicked off today at the Royaldeep Boxing Club here. This championship is being organised by Government Rajindra College.
Tejinder Singh Midhukhera, chairman of the club, was the chief guest on the first day of the games. Dr Sukhraj Singh, principal of Government Rajindra College was the special guest on the occasion.
While addressing the players, Midhukhera said students should also take part in sports along with studies. He inspired the players to participate in the tournament with the sportsmanship.
Dr Sukhraj Singh, president of the tournament committee, thanked the organising committee of the club.
As many as 75 boxers from 20 colleges are taking part at the three-day boxing tournament.
In the 51 kg category, Rajwant Kaur beat Navdeep Kaur and Shavinder Kaur defeated Navdeep Kaur.
Mariam defeated Rimplejit Kaur and Harandeep Kaur drubbed Paramjit Kaur in the 57 kg category. In the 67 kg category, Komaldeep defeated Najma.
Narinder Kaur outclassed Ramandeep Kaur in the 69 kg category. In the 75 kg category, Bhavna defeated Navpreet Kaur.
Punjab University, Patiala, has sent a team of officials to conduct the tournament.
University boxing coach Renu Bala, chief boxing coach, Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Prem Sharma and boxing coach Poonam Beniwal are a part of the team sent by Punjabi University.
