The first phase of the campaign has commenced in the country from July 1 and it will conclude on November 30.

The Jal Shakti Abhiyan focuses on five aspects — water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development, and intensive afforestation, said Deputy Commissioner Kumar Saurav Raj, who is also the district coordinator of the project.

“Besides saving water, we have high hopes that these students will also exhort their family members to conserve water which is most precious necessity for the human life,” he said.

District Education Officer Baljeet Kaur said, “The Education Department has asked the school students to save water under Jal Shakti Abhiyaan campaign. Under this campaign, the school principal, staff and all employees, along with school students, have been asked to save water and make proper use of it. Seminars, painting and slogan competitions are also being organised on the importance of water. The purpose of the painting contest is to create a sense of water conservation in the children’s mind.”
