Bathinda, September 11
The police have booked four persons for sheltering two notorious gangsters, one of whom was killed in an encounter on Friday while the other was arrested.
The accused have been identified as Balwinder Kaur, Jasvir Singh, Sandeep Singh, all residents of Phul Town and Balvir Kaur of Dusanjh village of Moga.
They have been booked under Sections 212 (harbouring offender) and 216 (harbouring offender who has escaped from custody or whose apprehension has been ordered) of the IPC and 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
The four have been in police custody ever since the two gangsters tried to escape police arrest by firing indiscriminately on Friday morning.
Police officials said a case had been registered following secret information provided by a police informer.
Gangster Balwinder Bambiha was wanted in many heinous criminal cases, including robbery, extortion, ‘supari’ killing and others.
Balwinder’s accomplice Tara Dosanjh was found hiding in paddy fields near Phul with a bullet injury and was arrested by a posse of more than 80 policemen.
He is shifted to the Faridkot medical college and hospital.
This is the third encounter by the police ever since Swapan Sharma joined as Bathinda SSP.
SSP Sharma has claimed that the elimination of Devinder Bambiha would prove to be instrumental in eradicating fear among the people and rising influence of the gang members involved in gang wars and criminal activities.
