Bathinda, July 31
With an aim to curb the supply of drugs, the police carried out a massive search operation on Wednesday. During the operation, the police arrested 28 persons, including seven women.
According to a release, SP (Special Branch) Harpreet Singh said the operation was kicked off early in the morning and police officials from Bathinda City-1, City-2, Talwandi Sabo and Bhucho were part of it. DSP Gurjeet Singh Romana led the search operation in Deep Nagar, Uttam Singh Nagar, Awa Basti and Krishna Colony.
A total of 140 policemen conducted the raids in various parts of the district.
The police recovered 2.7 kg of opium, 40 litres of lahan, 2 gm of smack, 260 sedative tablets and Rs28,750 in cash during the operation.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Himanshu, consumed some poisonous substance during the search operation. When contacted, SSP Nanak Singh said he had been admitted to hospital and was out of danger. — TNS
