Bathinda, May 28

Passengers travelling on the Amritsar-Bathinda route are a harried lot these days, as the PRTC is not running an AC bus service between the two cities despite hot and humid weather conditions prevailing in the region.

Scores of passengers lamented that they are left with no option but to travel in ordinary buses. The fact that even the private bus operators are not running AC buses on the route has added to their woes.

The PRTC had recently launched the AC bus service on the route, but discontinued it later without citing any reason.

Manpreet Kaur, a city resident, said, “With the start of school vacations, a large number of residents visit Amritsar to pay obeisance at Golden Temple, but with no AC buses available they will have to look for other options.”

Sukhmander Singh, a passenger, said, “It is very unfortunate that nether the PRTC nor any private bus operator are providing AC bus service to the holy city.”

Pleading anonymity, a PRTC employee, said, “The AC bus plying on Bathinda-Amritsar route was shifted to Chandigarh route after one of the AC buses developed a snag.” When contacted, Sita Ram, superintendent, PRTC, bluntly said that they were getting very few passengers on the Amritsar route due to which they switched this AC bus to the Chandigarh route. Besides, there is no plan to resume the AC bus service on Bathinda-Amritsar route.
