Shena Aggarwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development)-cum-Additional District Electoral Officer, today appealed to educational institutes for enrolling the names of eligible students in voters’ list and deputing campus ambassadors in their respective institutes. She said students attaining 18 years of age as on January 1. 2017 could also register themselves in a voters list.

While presiding over a meeting with district officials and representatives of various educational institutes, Aggarwal said the campus ambassadors should be nominated in a short time span so that they could sensitise the young and first-time voters by making them aware of the right to vote and voting process.

Giving details of activities under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), the ADC said in coming days, competitions of essay writing, slogan writing, poster making, quiz and debate activities would be organised in educational institutes to spread awareness about the voting process, rights and responsibilities etc.

She said the focus would also be laid on the first time and young voters. After this exercise, the District Administration will organise a district-level competition, the ADC added.

Aggarwal also stressed that a facilitation center should also be setup in campuses for the facilitation of students. She said the special summary revision programme had been organised in the district from September 7.

She said all BLOs and supervisors would remain present in the field on their polling stations on September 24 for reading of roll and they would receive forms in their respective polling stations on September 25.
