Agents have their way with the alleged connivance of officials at the regional transport office (RTO) situated in the District Administrative Complex (DAC), due to which people who come for works are affected.
Agents take money from Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000 from people as per the work. They take their commission along with the government fee from the people.
The situation has become such that if people directly approach the regional transport office for any work, not many would be able to get it done easily.
Residents say their files are not sent further for approval of the main authority.
Even after getting the approval, people are harassed over excuses such as dysfunctional printer or slow internet service, they added.
Taking note of such practices, the administration has decided to install CCTV cameras at the regional transport office to keep an eye on the working of the each official.
In 2013 too, CCTV cameras were installed here, but at that time, agents either got the directions of these cameras changed or got them stolen.
Recently, after the arrest of two agents, which exposed such practices in the department, Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra has ordered to install CCTV cameras in the offices.
There are a high number of complaints by residents against harassment by lower officials in the regional transport office regarding their work.
A district administration official said entry of agents in the regional transport office would be stopped as CCTV cameras were being installed so that no outsider entered the office and interfered with the government record.
