As electioneering is picking up momentum, the demand for Muktsari kurta pyjama has also increased in the past few days. Notably, Muktsari kurta pyjama is hot favourite of a majority with the politicians in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Even Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh is learnt to have recently ordered some kurta-pyjamis (shirt collar kurta and his trademark pyjami) from Muktsar. Besides, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has also got some kurta-pyjamas stitched from here.

The demand for this quite popular trade-mark dress of politicians can be gauged from the fact that a number of tailors in Chandigarh, Zirakpur, Ludhiana and other parts of the state have put up huge hoardings mentioning they too stitch ‘Muktsari kurta pyjama’. Some tailors in Muktsar are working overtime to meet the demand and even giving time of 15-20 days to stitch kurta-pyjamas.

Notably, Muktsari kurta pyjama is quite popular for its slim-fit kurta having shirt-like collars and payjama tight from the bottom, which is supported by two-side pockets and adjustable from the waist with buttons on each side, making it look like a slim pant.

“The trend has somewhat changed in the recent past. Now, shirt collars and ban collar kurtas are equally in trend. This season, the pyjama is not tight from the bottom, but is straight fit. As the elections are round the corner and the summer season has started, a number of youngsters, affiliated to different political parties, are coming to us to get white kurta-pyjamas stitched. Expensive cotton and linen are the most favourite fabrics of politicians. Our quality and style fetches us customers from even faraway places,” said some tailors in Muktsar.

Manpreet Singh, owner of Prince Style, Muktsar, said, “I have some special customers such as Capt Amarinder Singh, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Advocate General Atul Nanda, former minister Rana Gurjeet Singh, several MLAs, SGPC members, judges, bureaucrats and police officers. Besides, Sukhbir Singh Badal and Sukhpal Khaira have also remained my privileged customers. Our kurta pyjama is not a night suit. It is stylish and equally comfortable that is why people from faraway places come here. In the past about five years, a number of tailors in other cities are also stitching Muktsari kurta pyjama. They even charge more than us, which shows its popularity.”

Notably, Muktsari kurta pyjama is stitched at Rs600-1,000, which is almost doubled the price of any normal kurta pyjama.
