It seems the authorities concerned have failed to solve the problem of leakage from the water pipe at the Rose Garden Chowk. Despite many assurances given by the authorities concerned, the problem continues to cause inconvenience to city residents for the past many days.
During the water release time, dirty water and slush get accumulated at the Rose Garden Chowk. Even big potholes dug out by the Triveni Company gets filled with water, due to which, many accidents have taken place here in recent times.
Shopkeepers nearby the Rose Garden Chowk say that big potholes dug out by the company around their shops are posing a risk to commuters and also increases the possibility of vector-borne diseases in this area.
Manvinder Singh, a shopkeeper, said, “Now the Triveni company is going to make a chamber where the water pipe leakage is observed, but for the last two days no employees have come on the work.”
Moreover, big potholes have been filled with the rainwater, which is posing a serious threat to us as well as commuters, he says.
Mehandiratta Singh, a commuter, said, “The water pipe leakage is not only on the Goniana road, but also on the Barnala road as well in the Rose Garden Chowk, which is making miserable the lives of city residents.”
Moreover, material relating to the ongoing construction work on the flyover has been put on the main road, because of which the possibility of tyre puncture and accidents always loom.
On the other hand, residents of various parts of the city, including Nai Basti, Ganesha Basti, Amrik Singh Road, Sikanderpura Mohalla, Vishal Nagar, Panchvati Nagar and the adjoining areas, allege that for the past many days we are getting a muddy water supply, which we cannot use for bathing and drinking purposes.
Central Works SDO Hamesh Mittal said, “We have been continuously reporting the authorities concerned to solve the issue of water pipe leakage, but to no avail.
Moreover, shopkeepers nearby the chowk have also come to us and apprised us of the big potholes dug out by the Triveni company around their shops and on the slip road alongside the ongoing construction of flyover, we intimated them that this matter comes under the sewerage department.”
As for construction material put on the road, he said they would immediately order the construction firm not to place their equipments on the road.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sanyam Agaarwal said, “I have already ordered the authorities concerned to sort out the problem of water pipe leakage and muddy water supply to the residential area, the problem would be resolved soon.”
