Muktsar, June 14
The Nihangs belonging to a faction headed by Baba Balbir Singh 96 Crori of Baba Budha Dal last evening took control over a gurdwara at Gurusar village in Gidderbaha subdivision here, which was earlier under control of the faction headed by Baba Satnam Singh.
The 43 acres agricultural land in the village, which is registered in the name of Baba Balbir Singh, was a bone of contention between the two factions.
The Nihangs belonging to Baba Satnam Singh’s group had even trespassed into the agricultural land a few days ago and installed a Nishan Sahib. They even organised a horse race there. They were later arrested and sent to jail. In their absence, a few Nihangs, led by Baba Jassa Singh, an assistant of Baba Balbir Singh, along with some others entered the gurdwara and started reciting path from today morning, said some villagers.
Villagers said a 21-member committee was also formed to resolve the dispute, which has now agreed to handover the responsibility of management of the gurdwara to Baba Jassa Singh. “Baba Satnam Singh’s faction, which was earlier taking care of the gurdwara, had demanded the ownership rights of agricultural land, promised that the money would be spent on the gurdwara building, but now Baba Balbir Singh’s group has taken control over the gurdwara and agreed to spend the money being generated through the agricultural land on the gurdwara,” said a resident of Gurusar village. — TNS
