The 11-day annual Baba Farid Mela, which is organised in the memory of Sufi saint Sheikh Farid, started here on Wednesday.
The mela is jointly organised by the District Cultural Society and various religious and voluntary organisations. It will regale the visitors with over 200 craftsmen from various parts of the country, who have reached here for their participation, said Kumar Saurabh Raj, Deputy Commissioner, Faridkot.
The mela, a kaleidoscope of colours, music, aroma, entertainment and more activities, is offering visitors delicious delicacies from various regions. Highly delicious stuff from different parts of the country in the food courts is all set to blow the mind of visitors with exotic flavours and textures, said DC.
Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, inaugurated the mela, which has been set up at a vast ground near Grain Market on the Ferozepur-Faridkot road.
Folk performances at the open-air theatre lively skits and plays on various issues performed by youths and stunts by tribals, kavi sammelans and sufi darbars are some of many attraction of this mela.
Handcraft material showcasing the immense talent of craftsmen from different parts of the country like textiles, home decor items, organic personal and beauty products, organic spices and more, the visitor to this Mela can take their picks going on a shopping spree, said the DC.
At the inauguration, DC and Vice-Chancellor of medical university were accompanied by Manjeet Singh Dhesi, SSP Faridkot, and many other senior civil and police officers of the district. Every year a large number of devotees come here to pay their respects to the Sufi Saint.
