A book “Ideological Encirclement of the Sikhs after the Massacre of 1984” written by a Sikh scholar Ajmer Singh was released here at the Teacher’s Home in the presence of a large number eminent people.

The book is the fourth edition of the ongoing series of Ajmer Singh’s books about Sikh politics during the 20th century.

“I decided to work on history of the militant movement of 80s. But I found that available knowledge pattern is faulty. The minorities have been facing several ideological issues in the state. Our knowledge pattern is also influenced from colonial knowledge pattern. We have to address the ideological, political and communal agenda of the state. The model of the development of the nation state is a materialistic development of human resources. The development model in Sikhism is spiritual development,” said, Ajmer Singh.

In this book, Ajmer Singh targeted several Sikh scholars and reviewed their writings. “I have reviewed the contribution of professors working in the state universities during the period of militancy movement. It is sad state of affairs that they were not concerned with the Sikhism,” added Ajmer Singh.

Ajmer had spent several years in the Naxalite movement and shared the crisis of communism in this book.

“The communists often target religion and project it as an idea of medieval period or orthodox concept. The educated elite made a difference from the Guru and religion due to such propaganda. They mislead people by manipulative speeches,” Ajmer Singh added.

Several writers, including Rajwinder Singh Rahi, Jaspal Singh Sidhu, Paramjeet Singh Gaji were present on the occasion. Several speakers opposed the governments’ action to eliminate the cultural, social, religious and political diversity of the region.
