The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) organised an event for brick-kiln owners to motivate them to adopt the zig-zag model of chimney at their units as it helps check pollution. Officials said brick-kiln owners situated within the radius of 5 km were specially invited for the event which aimed at reducing the pollution.
PPCB Senior Environment Engineer Harbir Singh said brick-kiln owners should convert the chimneys of their units at the earliest to avoid action against them.
Maganbir Singh, an expert from the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), apprised the participants of the benefits of the zig-zag technology. He said the use of technology could go a long way in reducing the air pollution in and around the city. He also asked the brick-kiln owners to sign agreements with the PSCST regarding shifting to the zig-zag technique.
