A special first day cover and journal were released as a part of the centenary celebrations of the battle Neuve Chapelle at the military station here today.

Lt Gen Sarath Chand, the Colonel of the Garhwal Rifles, Garhwal Scouts and a large number of retired and serving soldiers, along with their families, were present on the occasion.

The gathering paid tributes to the brave Garhwalis who sacrificed their lives in the service to the nation.

A mountaineering expedition to the Peak Bandarpuch (6,320 Mtr) located in the Garhwal division of the Himalayas was flagged off by the Colonel of the regiment.

In his message, Lt Gen PM Hariz, General Officer Commanding, Chetak Corps, praised the troops of the battalion for their unflinching loyalty and dedication.
