The city has been given a festive look ahead of the 550th Parkash Purb celebrations with road dividers being painted and beautifully decorated with lights. The Hanuman Chowk-Mall Road stretch and from Fauji Chowk to Rose Garden along the GT Road have been beautifully decorated with colourful lights.
Even all the entry points — Kanhaiya Chowk from the Amritsar and Muktsar side, Dolphin Chowk at the ITI flyover from the Mansa and Dabwali side, Bibiwala Chowk from the Chandigarh side— will also be decorated.
MCB Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said, “In view of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, all the city roads and chowks would be tastefully decorated in the city.”
The work of installing lights is going on and will continue till November 7, when the celebrations pertaining to the 550th Parkash Purb will start in the city. All the roads and chowks will be covered with décor and lights.
The district administration has planned to organise cultural and religious events to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev from November 7 to 12.
On November 7, a four-day cricket tournament will be inaugurated. On the same day at 6.30 pm, a cycle rally will be organised from the Multipurpose stadium to Quila Mubarak. On November 10, 550 saplings would be planted at the Joggers’ Park. Even a cultural fair would be organised at the Rose Garden. Besides, a kirtan darbar would be organised.
On November 11, a nagar kirtan will be taken out from Singh Sabha gurdwara. Thereafter, a peace march, headed by the Finance Minister, will be taken out from Fire Brigade Chowk to Quila Mubarak. At 7 pm, a play on Guru Nanak Dev will be staged at the open theatre in the Rose Garden. On November 12 night, an event will be organised in which Punjabi singers Satinder Sartaj and Kanwar Grewal will enthrall the audience at Quila Mubarak.
Students visit Takht Shri Damdama Sahib
To mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, a visit to Takht Shri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, was organised by SSD Women’s Institute of Technology. BCA and MCA students, along with faculty members Dr Kirti Singh, Monika Bansal, Samridhi, and Veenu, visited the Gurdwara. They experienced a spiritual ambience as Sikh priests recited religious hymns. The atmosphere was full of devotion and bliss. Students were apprised of Guru Nanak’s teachings of love, peace, equality and brotherhood.
