The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seems to have failed to serve its purpose at Panniwala Fatta village in Malout subdivision. The main chowk of the village is located on the Malout-Fazilka road and the Abohar-Muktsar road is virtually serving the purpose of a garbage bin.

During a visit to the village, it came to know that heaps of trash were lying unattended on the road dividers situated along the chowk. Stray cattle were seen roaming freely, worsening the situation for commuters.

Some local residents said vegetable and fruit venders had a habit of throwing the waste on road dividers. “Earlier, the rotary itself was in a poor shape, but now some repair has been done. It also serves as the purpose of a bus stop. Passengers also throw trash here,” they said.

Notably, the village comes in the Lambi Assembly segment, which is represented by former CM Parkash Singh Badal.
