Comics on national heroes now a rage among youth

After the recent surgical strikes carried out by India along the LoC, the feeling of patriotism is at its peak among citizens of the country.

In view of overwhelming feelings of patriotism among the youth, National Book Trust has introduced comics on national heroes who laid down their lives fighting for the country.

These comic books are quite a hit in the ongoing book exhibition organised by the trust at Teachers’ Home.

The exhibition was inaugurated on October 6 and it will conclude on October 12.

These comic books on five Param Vir Chakar awardees are in English.

The NBT has introduced comics on Major Somnath Sharma, soldier Abdul Hamid, Capt Manoj Kumar Pandey, Major Shaitan Singh and Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal.

Major Somnath Sharma was awarded Param Vir Chakra for his bravery in 1947. He fought bravely against Pakistan.

Solider Abdul Hamid was a hero of the 1965 war against Pakistan. He took on Pakistan tanks on his own and damaged two tanks.

Irked over this act of Abdul, the Pakistan army attacked him with machine guns and grenades, but without caring about his life, he kept on attacking the Pakistan army.

Capt Manoj was a Commandant in Operation Vijay in 1999 during the Kargil war.

He was killed while fighting with the Pakistan army in Balitic sector. His sacrifice didn’t go waste as India won the battle.

Major Shaitan Singh took on Chinese troops in 1962 war at a height of 17,000 feet. As many as 114 brave soldiers held back 2,000 chinese soldiers. He was killed in this fight.

Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal was the one who took on the Pakistan army in 1971 war and won the Bastar sector. He changed the tide of the fight towards India. He was only 21-year-old at that time.
