Members of the Computer Teachers Union, Bathinda, today gathered outside the District Administrative Complex and staged a protest against the state government and the Education Department for not heeding their demands that have been lying pending for a long time.

They threatened to continue the stir till the time their demands are met and also announced to hold a state-level rally in Mohali on February 21.

Earlier, the protesters had planned to take out a rally in favour of their demands and to make the public aware of the “anti-employee policies” of the government, but shelved their plan after a deputation of the teachers were called for a meeting by the Deputy Commissioner, who further fixed their meeting with the DGSE. The meeting will be held in Chandigarh on February 23.

During the protest, district president of the union Pardeep Maluka and general secretary Harcharan Singh while addressing the agitators said while the state government had earlier agreed to their demand of regularisation of their services and regularised them under the Punjab ICT Education Society (PICTES), they were never given salaries as per the pay grade of other regular employees of the Education Department.

They added that all these years they had been kept bereft of benefits and allowances extended to other regular employees.

They demanded that all computer teachers working in the distirct be shifted from PICTES to the Education Department as other regular staff and be given all allowances and benefits enjoyed by the latter and also be given salaries as per the grade pay.

Sukhdev Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Pankaj Bansal, Gurpreet Singh, Ashu Singh, Kulwant Singh, Balkaran Singh, Mandeep, Bharat Bhushan, Rajandeep Bansal, Anuraag, Pratibha, Meenu, Rachna, Harjinder, Raman Nathana, Arun Kumar and Vikas Garg were among those others present.
