Bathinda, February 8
An elderly man was killed on the Bathinda-Goniana road after the bicycle he was riding on was hit by a speeding MUV.
The deceased has been identified as Jarnail Singh Jaila, who was returning after day’s work to Blahar Vinju village.
He was on his side when a speeding Multi Utillity Vehicle (MUV) Mahindra Xylo hit him from the rear.
The man fell on the road and his head was injured badly, which lead to his immediate death.
Onlookers said it was the Xylo driver who was at fault and was driving his vehicle at a break-neck speed.
The elderly man used to do modest jobs to earn a living. While family members of the elderly were dumbfounded, relatives and villagers who rushed to the spot demanded stringent action against the driver and adequate compensation for the family.
Investigating officer Sukhpal Singh at the Nehianwala police station said a case under Sections 304-A and 427 of the IPC had been registered against the accused driver who has been identified as Kuldeep Singh of Nehianwala village.
He said the accused was the driver of the vehicle but the owner was yet not identified. No arrest has been made so far. — TNS
