The work on desilting of the DAV pond to increase its capacity has been halted again. MCB officials have claimed that it has been stopped as rainwater was accumulated in it, but it would be started again.
Last year as well, the process of desilting of the DAV pond to increase its capacity ahead of the monsoon was initiated but it was halted later.
Sources claimed that huge money is required for this project.
Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said, “The work on desilting of the DAV pond has been halted as rainwater got accumulated in it and soon, the work would start again. There is no shortage of funds.”
Desilting was started as the MCB is planning to convert the DAV pond spread over 11.78 acres into a picnic spot.
As per the plan, a track for jogging will be constructed around the pond. An open gym, along with a volleyball court, will come up in a corner of the park.
Besides, the MCB is planning to make a kids’ corner in which joyrides will be installed.
Apart from this, a Sunday market will also be organised here so that people from Aggarwal Colony, Basant Vihar, Bhatti Road area, Chandsar Basti, Bibiwala Road area, Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar and other nearby areas can visit it and also get spend time in the park.
The beautification of the DAV pond is one of the dream projects of Finance Minister and Bathinda (Urban) MLA Manpreet Singh Badal. The civic body will spend around Rs 6 crore on the project.
The map of the project has already been prepared and as per MC officials, the Finance Minister has assured them of releasing funds soon.
The officials said as soon as they get the funds, the work on the project would be initiated after floating a tender.
