Members of the Bathinda unit of the Diploma Engineers Association, Punjab, continued to stage protest against the state government in favour of their demands.

Protesting against the Water supply and Sanitation Department for not heeding their demands, they threatened to intensify their stir.

Addressing the protesters, leaders of the union said the diploma holder engineers had been staging protest for the past several days but officials had adopted a nonchalant attitude towards their demands.

They added that they would continue their protests till August 18.

Demanding DPC meetings to be held for discussing the promotion cases of junior engineers to sub-division engineers, cancellation of transfers of engineers to far flung areas and relieving the engineers of duties in the education, Powercomm and other departments, which are not related to their job profile among other issues.

Raising issues pertaining to outsourcing of work of chlorination under schemes of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, they demanded that sub-division engineers be given Rs 5,000 fixed travel allowance per month, a meeting be held to hear their demands.
