A person today committed suicide by consuming sulphas as his neighbour was allegedly blackmailing him for the past some time.
The Civil Lines police have recovered a suicide note from the pocket of the deceased. Four persons, including a couple, have been booked as the deceased has held them responsible for taking this step.
The deceased has been identified Sukhbir Singh, a resident of the Bhatti road area in Bathinda.
Jatinderpal Singh, deceased’s son, has lodged a complaint stating that they have an aluminium shop at the Bhatti road. On February 1, around 8 pm, his mother told him over the phone that his father had consumed sulphas.
When they took him to a private hospital, the doctor referred him to DMC, Ludhiana, but he died before that.
Jatinderpal alleged that his neighbour Jatinder Kumar alias Jimmy, his servant Bhola, a resident of Kotlapura, painter Angrej Singh and his wife Tammana were blackmailing his father Sukhbir Singh and due to this, his father had taken this step.
It was mentioned in the suicide note that the accused threatened to kill him.
As per the suicide note, the accused plotted against him and eight months ago, Tammana demanded Rs 3 lakh threatening to expose him. He gave her the money.
On January 17, Angrej Singh, husband of Tammana, came to his shop and demanded Rs 10 lakh more but he refused to give it this time.
It was further mentioned in the suicide note that he had no illicit relation with anyone.
Investigating officer Manjeet Singh said a case under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC has been registered at the Civil Lines police station and the accused would be held soon.
