To prepare the students in 10 meritorious government schools in the state for the competitive entrance exams such as CA and ICWA, the School Education Department has decided to provide online coaching to all 1,354 students (855 of Class XI and 499 of Class XII) from November 20.
On Friday, the School Education Department invited tenders for the online coaching of 1,354 commerce stream students in its 10 meritorious schools located in Bathinda, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Mohali, Ghabdan (Sangrur), Hukumat Singh Wala (Ferozepur), Gurdaspur, Talwara (Hoshiarpur) and Patiala.
As 10 Senior Secondary Residential Schools for Meritorious Students have been opened with the motive of imparting quality education to the students of Cass XI and XII in non-medical, medical and commerce streams, these students need extra coaching to compete in competitive entrance exams to get entry into professional colleges after Class XII exams, said a senior functionary in the department.
The medium of instructions in all meritorious schools is English and these are boarding (residential) co-ed schools.
These Schools are working under the supervision of Society for Promotion of Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab.
“However, to achieve the stipulated aims, we are looking for reputed professional coaching house/institute/centre/organisation which can impart quality online coaching to students,” the functionary said.
Under the same agenda, the department has for the first time invited private service providers to give coaching to the students of commerce steam to prepare them for entrance examinations.
The ICWA and CA are the highly desirous courses among commerce stream students.
The ICWA degree provides knowledge on how to manage finance competently and CA degree gives the knowledge of taxation, auditing and accounting.
These special coaching classes of minimum of 1 hour and 30 minutes will be conducted six days a week on the school premises and every Sunday. The students will be given the test in the syllabi covered during the week.
The nature of conduct of the test should be of the same type as that for which students have to appear.
