Engineer’s Day celebrated

Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University celebrated Engineers’ day on its Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology to commemorate the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya.
The Departments of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Computer Applications of the college organised the event. Prof (Dr) Jyoti Saxena, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication, welcomed all the dignitaries present at the function.
Campus director, Prof (Dr) Jasbir Singh Hundal, briefly introduced Sir Visvesvaraya and his achievements to the students. He said he was called the precursor of economic planning in India. He took an interest not in engineering alone, but was capable of applying his talent to many allied matters connected with the development of the nation.
The chief guest, Prof (Dr) Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University, Bathinda elaborated on how engineering is important in every aspect of the world like structural, mechanical, computer engineering and many more.
He also asked students to take pledge that they will uphold the engineering profession by heart and give their best in whatever field they work. He encouraged students with various daily life examples. The event was followed by a workshop on cloud computing conducted by Ranu Mishra and his team, experts from Computer Education and Technology Promotion Association (CETPA), Noida, in which more than 150 students and faculty members participated.
This workshop included a practical session where the students were taught the development and deployment of an application using cloud computing. In his lecture , he threw light on how cloud computing is a way of providing various services on virtual machines allocated on top of a large physical machine pool which resides in the cloud.
He also explained that cloud computing is a way to increase capacity or add different capabilities to the current setting on the fly without investing in new infrastructure, training new personnel or licensing new software.
National employability test was also conducted by the company so that the candidates could be selected for providing stipend-based industrial training at their company premises in Noida.
