Expert dwells on aspects of teaching

A seminar on ‘How We Teach’ and ‘How Should We Teach’ was organised at the seminar hall of the Central University of Punjab here today.
The lecture was organised by the Department of Education and the key speaker at the programme was Dr Jayanti Dutta, deputy director, Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Dr Dutta said teaching was a profession where teachers interact with students and help them to transform into complete humans though a process after gaining skills with experience and time.
In India, it is a tradition where anybody can join teaching while in foreign countries, the appointments are purely based on the skills, she added.
Discussing the role of teachers in the emerging scenario, Dr Jyanti Dutta said with time, the role of a teacher became more challenging and full of responsibility due to technological advancement.
She stressed upon appropriate strategies and skills that a teacher must have in order to make classroom teaching more effective.
She emphasised the role of research in making classrooms more conducive for learning.
Before the lecture, Prof SK Bawa welcomed the resource person and participants. Dr Satvinderpal Kaur introduced the resource person and her contributions of last two decades in teachers training. Vice-Chancellor Prof RK Kohli and Dr P Ramarao felicitated Dr Jyanti Dutta while Dr Jubilee Padmanabhan delivered the vote of thanks.
During the programme, Prof RG Saini, Prof AK Jain, Dean, Computer Science and Tecnology, Dr Shireesh Pal Singh and other faculty members and students were also present.
