The Philosophy and Psychology Association of Government Rajindra College today organised an extension lecture to observe World Philosophy Day on the college premises. The day is celebrated to reflect on the value of philosophy for the development of human thought.
Dr Gurjit Singh Mann, Head of the Department of Philosophy, welcomed the keynote speaker on the occasion. He threw light on the importance of knowledge by quoting ‘Knowledge is Virtue’.
Principal Dr Sukhraj Singh presided over the function and motivated the students to acquire knowledge from every opportunity that has come their way.
Dr RK Deswal, chairman of the Department of Philosophy, Kurukshetra University, was the keynote speaker. He spoke on yoga and meditation. Prof Deswal divided the topic into three parts — nature of yoga, meditation and the seven chakras.
He said yoga includes asana, pranayama, dhiyaan and chakras. Yoga keeps the body healthy, pranayama keeps the mind healthy and proper food at the right time helps in controlling the five senses, he added.
“Withdrawing from the outer materialistic world helps in attaining real knowledge. It is the key to the healthy body and mind that is the ultimate goal of life,” the keynote speaker added.
Deswal concluded the session by saying that yoga and meditation were the only way to live complete life.
Vice-principal Dr Ramesh Chander Pasrija, presented the vote of thanks. Prof Seema Gupta, Head of the Department of Psychology, conducted the stage.
