The department of mechanical engineering of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University has organised TEQIP-II sponsored two-day international conference on ‘Latest Developments in Materials, Manufacturing and Quality Control (MMQC-16)’ that began today.
As many as 117 research and review papers from across the world were published in e-proceedings of the conference.
Each paper was reviewed twice by experienced academicians. The research work by scientists, academicians and research scholars from USA, Ethiopia, Iran, Ukraine, IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, IIT Ropar, DTU Delhi, PEC Technological University, Chandigarh and NITTTR, Chandigarh, was received here.
Ian Thorpe, vice president, HSE, Hindustan Mittal Energy Limited, Guru Gobind Singh Refinery, Bathinda, was the chief guest at the inaugural session.
He delivered a talk to the students about the importance of industrial hazards and safety management.
Bavneet Singh Brar, vehicle crashworthiness analyst, Hyundai Motors, Detroit, Michigan, USA, delivered a lecture on automotive manufacturing and design to reduce vehicle accident fatalities.
He explained the technology used for crash analysis and its simulation. Earlier, he discussed the automobile technology used in USA to the students of mechanical engineering department and shared his views on career options abroad.
Dr Prabal Talukdar, professor, IIT Delhi and Dr Inderpreet Singh, professor, IIT Roorkee will be the keynote speakers tomorrow.
Prof Rajesh Kumar, PEC, Chandigarh, Dr Anish Sachdeva and Dr Ajay Gupta from NIT, Jalandhar, Dr Sukhdeep Singh Dhami, NITTTR, Chandigarh, Dr Vishavjeet Singh, Director, School of Energy Studies in Agriculture, PAU Ludhiana, Dr Rajinder Kumar Soni, Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology, Murthal, chaired the sessions during the conference.
Prof MP Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, MRSSTU, Bathinda appreciated the efforts of the organising committee in selecting a relevant topic for the conference, which was in tune with the Indian Prime Minister’s vision of Make in India.
He emphasised his stance to give priority to research in Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University.
He informed the gathering that the university was committed to promoting research activities and shortly, an instrumentation research centre would be established in the university with state-of-the-art facilities for all faculty members and research scholars of the affiliating colleges.
Dr Jasbir Singh Hundal, campus director, GZSCCET and patron of the conference warmly welcomed all of delegates.
He said with the funding of research projects, the research culture will percolate in this region.
Prof Surinder Singh, chairman of the conference, narrated the details of the conference. The souvenir of the conference was released by the chief guest.
