Dispelling the fear of many farmers that harvesting of paddy crop with a combine harvester equipped with super straw management system (SMS) would decrease yield of next crop of wheat, Amandeep Singh, a farmer of Gandhar village, said he not only got a good yield of wheat crop, but his paddy crop, too, was standing in a good condition.
“I harvested the paddy crop in 65 acres with a combine harvester equipped with super SMS last year. I did not burn the paddy residue and sow the next crop of wheat with a happy seeder. The results were impressive. The mixture of paddy residue worked as an organic fertiliser. It also saved the environment and money,” he said.
Amandeep further said this year he bought the happy seeder machine by availing the benefit of 50 per cent subsidy.
Baljinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Muktsar, said: “The soil in the district does not have any kind of deficiency, except of organic matter. Therefore, the farmers should mix the crop residue in fields. This also helps in saving environment.”
