Farmers from different villages in the district have been availing the services of a pesticide spraying machine with a Japanese technology.
Farmers are of the view that using the automated machine is not only a cheaper alternative than manual spraying but also help save time. They were speaking on the sidelines of a conference organised by a private firm on whitefly management in the cotton crop here on Saturday.
Pritam Singh, a farmer from Jodhpur Pakhar village in Maur, said, “I have availed the services of an automated spraying machine to sprinkle pesticides and herbicides in all 27 acres of agricultural land. I have sown cotton and paddy crop on my land. I just had to pay Rs 90 on a per acre basis as against manual labour of Rs 140 to Rs 150, which I had to pay last year. Moreover, using the spraying machine is quite effective as pesticides do not get wasted and it also saves time.”
Amandeep Singh, another farmer from Yatri village, said, “A labour shortage has been gradually becoming a very big concern for the farming community. But the automated spraying machine has provided a perfect alternative to the labour shortage. We no longer have to rely or convince them to sprinkle spray in our fields on lesser rates. The spraying machine is not only cheaper but also helps save a lot of time.”
Meanwhile, agricultural scientists and experts from the region addressed a large gathering of farmers at a seminar on management of whitefly in the cotton crop. It was was jointly organised by UPL Ltd and Crop Care Federation of India.
Experts dwelt on on various latest techniques in regard to judicious and safe use of pesticides for different crops.
