First aid training certificate must for driving licence aspirants

The district administration has made it mandatory for all driving licence aspirants to get first aid training certificate from the Red Cross Society.

To get the certificate, they have to give Rs 500 to St John Ambulance Association, which is associated with the Red Cross Society.

Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra said, “We have made it mandatory for all driving licence aspirants to reduce the fatalities in traffic accidents.”

Earlier, it was mandatory for commercial vehicle drivers to be the first one to respond so as to provide trauma care for road accident victims.

According to information, to get the first aid training certificate, driving licence aspirants have to go through two hours training session, which will be organised on every Monday in from 2 to 4 pm at the Red Cross complex.

Red Cross first aid tanning instructor Naresh Pathania said, “First aid training is mandatory for all driving licence aspirants to deal with any kind of untoward incident. Here, we will teach them about basic life support and rescue systems and also inform them about emergency services.”

“Talking to city residents regarding the first aid training certificate making mandatory for all driving licence aspirants, we got mixed reaction from the public,” he added.

Harbans Singh, a city resident, said, “Although it is a good step taken by the district administration, the authorities have to make all needful arrangements at the first aid training centre so that without any chaos, every resident easily gets the certificate.”

Jyotsana Kumari, another city resident, said, “The district administration has to increase the training session days and if possible, time too so that people can take real benefits of the first aid training session rather than just completing the formalities.”

A senior official of the Red Cross Society said, “Considering the increasing number of driving licence aspirants footfall, we have already increased the staff at the Red Cross complex for the convenience of the public.”


Two-hour training session

  • To get the certificate, they have to give Rs 500 to St John Ambulance Association, which is associated with the Red Cross Society. 
  • To get the first aid training certificate, driving licence aspirants have to go through a two-hour training session, which will be organised every Monday, from 2 pm to 4 pm, at the Red Cross complex
