Malwa College of Physical Education today organised its annual athletics meet on the college campus. The meet was inaugurated by Sukhcharan Singh Brar, an international athlete. After taking salute from the impressive march past, he advised the students to take an active part in sports activities for their development. He added that hard work is the key to success in one’s life and career.
Baljinder Singh, an international athlete also graced the occasion as the chief guest during the prize distribution ceremony. In his address, he underlined the importance of sports in students’ career. He advised them to shun drugs to lead a happy and healthy life.
Gagandeep Kaur and Ramandeep Singh were declared the best athletes among the boys and girls respectively and Saheed Udam Singh House was adjudged the best house.
The results in the girls category events were: In 100m race Gagandeep Kaur came first, Gagandeep Kaur second and Ramandeep Kaur got the third position. In 200m race, Gagandeep came first, Ramandeep second while Rajandeep Kaur got the third position. In 400m race Ramandeep got the first position, Gagandeep second and Amandeep Kaur got the third position. In 800m race, Gagandeep got the first position, Amandeep second and Amandeep Kaur got the third position. In long jump, Gagandeep got the first position, Rajandeep second and Gagandeep Kaur got the third position. In shot put, Simran remained first, Gagandeep Kaur second and Jaswinder Kaur got the third position.
In boys category, in 100m race, Kuldip Singh got the first position, Simranit Singh second and Sandeep Singh got the third position. In 200 meter race, Manish got the first place, Ramandeep second and Manpreet Singh the third position. In 400m race, Jagsir Singh got the first position, Ramandeep second and Amritpal Singh the third position. In 800m race, Kuljinder came first, Manit Singh second while Balwinder Singh got the third position.
In long jump, Ramandeep got the first position, Lovepreet Thind second and Balwinder Kumar got the third position In shot put, Chamkaur came first, Gurmit Singh second while Simranjit Singh got the third position.
Prof Darshan Singh, Director, Malwa College of Physical Education, read out the sports achievements. Dean RC Sharma extended a vote of thanks to the guests.
KPS Brar, general secretary of Punjab Athletics Association, Raman Singla, secretary of Malwa Advanced Educational Society, Rakesh Goyal, member, managing committee, Principal Prof NK Gosain, Dr BS Chhillar, Director, Agriculture Department, Dy Director, Computer Science Department, Dr Sarbjeet Dhillon, members of the staff as well as the students were present on the occasion.
