Heart surgeries more successful for elderly, says Dr Rohit Modi
Bathinda, November 24
Dr Rohit Modi, senior cardiologist, said age was no bar for heart surgery. The success rate of heart surgeries among persons above 75 years is more as compared to the young and their recovery rate is equally good, he said.
He said this when Bachhan Kaur, 91, underwent a successful heart surgery at Max Hospital. The elderly woman was admitted to the hospital with sudden, severe chest pain on November 5.
Doctors said that sedentary lifestyle, in addition to stressful work conditions and a compromising diet, were the leading factors in precipitating heart disease risk. As per a recent study conducted in 12 cities across India, it has been found that over 70 per cent of the urban Indian population is at the risk of being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. — TNS
