Bathinda, September 22
The forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department for the region proved to be true as heavy rain provided some relief to the city residents this evening. However, it left many areas waterlogged.
Rain also resulted in power cuts in the city. The claims of the Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) of being prepared for heavy downpour fell flat as lanes and roads connecting Power House Road, Bathinda-Goniana Road, Amrik Singh Road, Trans Railway Line area and several other low-lying areas in the city saw waterlogging.
Even the area in and round the District Courts Complex and the Civil Secretariat couldn’t escape from the problem.
Although huge money has been spent over the years to address the problem and much has changed thereafter, the problem of waterlogging still persists due to improper sewerage facilities in several areas across the railway lines.
MCB Commissioner Anil Garg said to reduce the problem of waterlogging, the MCB had deputed officials who would switch on water pumps to expedite the process of water drainage.
The day started on a cloudy note and it finally started raining in the evening. As per the record maintained by the Agri-Met Department of the PAU regional station Bathinda, maximum temperature was recorded at 31.5 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature at 25.5 degree Celsius.
As per the forecast released by the regional centre, the area is likely to receive moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours.
