Patients and employees at the Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital are facing a tough time owing to the inadequate water supply.

It has come to light that the motor installed for the water supply has been lying defunct for the past many years. Currently, submersible motors are being used to fill the water tanks of the hospital. These tanks are also in a deplorable condition.

A hospital employee, who did not wish to be quoted, said, “We have already intimated Senior Medical Officer Sukhjinder Singh Gill about the defunct main motor and temporary arrangements made for the water supply. Till date, we haven’t received any response.”

“The water supply department of the hospital is also facing a shortage of staff. The hospital has two pump operators, a sewerage operator and a plumber,” he added.

Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Sukhjinder Singh Gill said, “Recently, we have provided some funds to the authorities concerned to repair the main motor. But if the problem persists, I will personally look into the matter. The machinery installed for the water supply is old. A number of times, I have taken up the issue with the Civil Surgeon and urged to install new motors.”

On being asked about the dilapidated condition of the water supply house, he said, “We will carry out the repairs in the building after receiving funds. Moreover, I have already intimated the higher officials regarding the condition of the water supply house.”
