Jalal elected DBA chief for second time

Ranjit Singh Jalal has been elected the president of the District Bar Association (DBA) in the elections of the association held today at the District Court Complex. The polling was held at the Bar Room in the complex.

Jalal was victorious with 36 votes as he polled 526 votes and he defeated Guriqbal Singh Chahal, who got 490 votes. Earlier also, he has served a term as the DBA president.

Rohit Romana was elected secretary of the association. He got 676 votes and his opponent, Sunil Khurana, got 340 votes.

Advocate Gurdev Singh Sodhi was the returning officer and Manpreet Kaur Brar was the assistant returning officer for the elections.

Sodhi said for the election of the president’s post, 1,042 votes were polled of which 26 votes were cancelled and for the secretary’s post 1,038 votes were polled of which 22 votes were cancelled.

He said earlier Lakinderdeep Singh Bhaika was elected vice-president, Mehak Mittal joint secretary and Japneet Kapil as treasure of the association unopposed.

He added that there were total 1,230 members of the District Bar Association.
