Bollywood actor Jimmy Shergill said despite working in 11 movies in the Punjabi film industry so far, he was not satisfied yet and wanted to play Shaheed Bhagat Singh as it was his dream role.
Playing the role of an angry young man in his upcoming Punjabi flick Shareek, which is scheduled to hit the screens on October 22, Jimmy said the film showcased the story of a family which split over the issue of land and their envy deepened every single day.
He said it was a family drama with the influence of social factors. Making such a film is a big challenge but the whole team has so beautifully worked on it, he added.
Jimmy is of the opinion that now the Punjabi film industry was moving towards movies based on serious issues from the comedy genre.
“The movie has a rural backdrop and deals with a land dispute. It raises the issue how land becomes a reason of enmity between brothers,” Jimmy added.
A movie on the issue of land dispute has been made after about 20 years in Punjabi cinema and one of the messages of the movie is the futility of such dispute, he said.
His other Bollywood movie Madari, starring himself and Irrfan Khan is also complete and will hit the cinema houses soon, he added.
Mahie Gill said she had acted in a Punjabi movie after three years as she wanted to do a movie in a rural setup but she was not getting good scripts.
She plays the role of Jassi opposite to Jassa played by Jimmy Shergill. Apart from the film, she is working in another movie ‘Wedding Anniversary’ alongside actor Nana Patekar, in addition to two more films.
Director of the movie Navaniat Singh said the script was the USP of the film and it touched the Punjabi ground each moment. The events are close to reality and the audiences will certainly feel connected.
The star cast of the movie includes Jimmy Shergill, Mahie Gill, Guggu Gill, Mukul Dev, Gulchu Jolly, Oshin and Simer Gill among others, who were in the city today for its promotion.
