A major mishap was averted today in the afternoon at Partap Nagar around 3.30 pm when a cable box joint attached to a mobile tower installed at the terrace of one of the shops in the area, fell down.
At the time of the incident, no person was present on the road due to which no injury or casualty was reported. After the incident, shopkeepers staged a protest against the district administration and the Tower Company. The agitators demanded the shifting of the installed mobile tower from the residential area and the protesters also raised slogans against them. Revealing the details, Jaswinder Singh Lubana, a shopkeeper, said Gurmail Singh had installed a mobile tower on his 42-year-old building. He informed that a number of times, he had asked the district administration to shift the mobile tower from the current place but no action had been taken by the administration on this so far. He also said not only the Tata, even other companies had started using the connection from the tower.
The officials of the Tata Company were working in the afternoon today on this tower. While working, the cable joint box, weighing about 4 kg, fell down as the workers on the tower could not hold it. The shopkeepers alleged that they had called the police control room to inform the police but no one reached the spot. They also informed that the building adjoining the tower is very old and can fall anytime.
They also said that tomorrow, they would meet the DC and SSP to submit a memorandum, demanding the shifting of the tower.
