Lecture on women’s empowerment

SSD College of Professional Studies, Bhokhra, conducted an exam and awareness lecture on the rights and importance of women in society on Monday.

The purpose of the event was to make the students aware about laws enacted to safeguard the rights of women. The exam was sponsored by the National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi.

The students were made aware of 14 topics related to women and the exam was conducted on these topics which were: Dowry Protection Act, 1961; Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; Maternity Benefit Act, 1961; Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956; SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Minimum Wages Act, 1948; Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971; Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994, among others.

A total of 73 students appeared in the examination and Ritik Garg of BA (3rd year) bagged the first position while Lalit Sharma of BSc (Agriculture 4th year) came second.

Five students were chosen for the third position— Pankaj, Ankit Saini, Satveer Kaur, Sarwan Kumar and Naveen Goyal. As per the instructions from the NCW, these seven students were given a cash prize of Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 each, respectively. — TNS
