‘Make children aware of traffic rules’

Bathinda, February 23

The district police and traffic wing today launched a campaign ‘Save Life, Slow Down’ to make people aware of traffic rules.

Veenu Badal, wife of Manpreet Singh Badal, Finance Minister, reached as the chief guest during the programme.

Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra, SSP Naveen Singla, Municipal Commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal, SP (Traffic) Gurpreet Singh and Anil Thaman, a social worker, also attended the programme.

Veenu Badal distributed helmets among policemen and students. Veenu Badal said many accidents had been taken place due to violation of traffic rules. Around the world, 33 per cent accidents have taken place due to over-speeding.

She appealed to all mothers to make their children aware of the use of helmets.

SSP Naveen Singla said during the two week-long ‘Traffic Week’, the police will sensitise people to traffic rules in various parts of district.

Policemen of the traffic wing will give information regarding traffic on every chowk and a signature drive will also be launched during this week.

Members of local NGO’s will also be a part of this. The SSP appealed to parents to make sure that their children are allowed to use a vehicle only when they turn 18-year-old.

Singla said more than 31,000 challans were issued in 2017 and more than Rs 1 crore was recovered. As many as 1,440 challans were issued in two months of this year.
