Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Sikander Singh Maluka will inaugurate the 12-day regional Saras Mela on October 14. As many as 250 stalls of self-help groups will be set up at the fair. Besides, cultural activities, magic shows, entertainment and recreational activities for children will also be organised.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Shena Aggarwal, nodal officer of the fair, said arrangements were being given final touches for the fair. She said the purpose of this fair was to provide a platform to rural craftsmanship under the aegis of the Union Rural Development Ministry in collaboration with the Punjab Government.
She said the fair was not only providing opportunities to sell the goods being prepared by craftsmen but was also generating employment.
Various renowned artists, singers and ghazal masters entertain the audience. The artists who are coming to the fair are Sharry Mann, Kanwar Grewal, Satwinder Bugga, Gurmit Bawa, Amarinder Bobby, Amar Sujanpuri, Upkar Sandhu and Nimrat Khaira. Besides, a cultural troupe of Punjab Police from Patiala will also entertain the people by presenting folk songs and dances etc.
The ADC also urged the residents of city as well as residents of other districts to ensure their healthy participation during the fair. She said the district administration had made adequate arrangements for the visitors.
