Member of Parliament from Sangrur, Bhagwant Mann, today met the protesting teachers at Jai Singh Wala, who have been climbing atop a water-tank for the last many days to protest against the state government.
He, however, also defended himself over the video, which has gone viral, in which he allegedly spoke against the teachers not working properly, despite getting huge salaries.
Bhagwant claimed that he was being misrepresented in the video as he only said that non-teaching work was taken from teachers of government schools by the government.
He claimed that if the Aam Aadmi Party formed the government in Punjab, it would raise the education standards of government schools.
While bringing some of the protesting teachers along with him, Bhagwant addressed a press conference where he also criticised the cane-charging of teachers.
He maintained that the jobs of teachers should be regularised by the government.
On the slapping of FIR against Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal’s close aide Gurdeep Singh and SAD MLA Jeet Mohinder Sidhu, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP said this had exposed the nexus between Sukhbir and Amarinder as Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu was earlier a confidant of Captain before joining SAD.
“Sukhbir Badal and Captain Amarinder Sindh stand exposed by the registration of an FIR by the CBI regarding the multi-crore scam against Gurdeep Singh and Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu,” he added.
He said Sidhu switched his loyalty towards SAD by resigning from the Congress and getting re-elected from SAD under the ‘secret understanding’ between Sukhbir and Amarinder.
Mann said, “As Captain Amarinder Singh wanted to destabilise the then PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa, he conspired for the resignation of his loyalist Jeet Mohinder Singh. Switching over of the loyalty by Sidhu was done in such a way that it has remained a mystery for the ‘Aam Aadmi’, who is curious to know why Sidhu resigned from the Congress and joined SAD,” Mann said.
The MP said Gurdeep Singh is the owner of Fastway Cable, better known as ‘Cable Mafia’ of Punjab, running under the political patronage of Sukhbir Badal.
Gurdeep Singh is also known in the political circle as the key financer of Sukhbir Badal, who manages the ‘political money laundering’ during elections at the behest of his political boss Sukhbir, he added.
