Punjab’s first modern anganwari kendra ‘Nand Ghar’ was inaugurated at Banawala village of Mansa district today.
A Nand Ghar offers integrated education for children in the age-group of 0-6 years, providing nutrition and hygienic sanitation facilities.
The Nand Ghar was inaugurated by Dalraj Singh Bhundar, the son of Rajya Sabha MP Balwinder Singh Bhundar. He is a former chairman of Zila Parishad, Mansa and a member of the core committee Shiromani Akali Dal. The inaugural event was attended by sarpanch Balraj Singh and other gram panchyat representatives.
The main objective of establishing the Nand Ghar in villages is to promote a healthy and safe environment for a mother and her child. “A Nand Ghar is one of the best projects of the Vedanta group. This is the first anganwari model of the state with all required facilities.Definitely, it will have a positive impact on a mother and her child. The Nand Ghar provides potable water, toilets, swings, furniture for students and makes them aware of other practices/ facilities available at this modern centre,” said CN Singh, Chief Operating Officer.
“An LED TV along with the IEC material will help anganwari workers in teaching and creating awareness in the community at the centre,” he added.
In Punjab, the ‘Nand Ghar project is a joint initiative of the Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) and the MGNREGA. They had signed an agreement last year to construct 24 ‘Nand Ghars’ in Mansa. A blue print of these centers was designed by the MGNREGA team, keeping all favourable weather conditions in mind, including proper ventilation. The inner area of the center has been increased by 15 per cent with increased roof height. The design of the building is new and attractive. The first ‘Nand Ghar’ in India was inaugurated on June 24 last year.
