Mansa, February 13
Pardeep Kaur (16) from Mansa has been selected for the national shooting camp, scheduled to be held in New Delhi in April.
She has been made it to the camp in 10m pistol category.

The 16-year-old shooter won a bronze in 10m pistol at the 36th North Zone Shooting Championship for Youth held in Delhi in September last year.
Confident Pardeep has written her success story after putting in a lot of efforts. She gives the credit of her success to her school teacher Jyoti, under her, she nourished her skills. The shooter practises for six hours daily.
Pardeep, the daughter of a farmer, says, “Earlier for a long time, I could not get any pistol. I used to practice with the pistol which was provided by my teacher. I did my Class X from DAV Public School. I am the eldest among my sisters and a brother. My aim is to win a gold at the World Championship and then in the Olympics. The government should open at least one shooting school in Mansa similar to a Lambi-based school.”
The shooter is a Class XI student of DAV Model School, Budhlada. She had opted for non-medical after Class X.
Birdevinder Kaur, principal, DAV Model School, Budhlada, said, “She had bagged the first position at a district-level championship and then she won a gold at the state-level championship. Thereafter, she was selected for the North Zone Shooting Championship. Now, she has secured her place in the camp of Indian team.”
Gamdoor Singh, father of the shooter, said, “My daughter had performed well at the youth championship. She cleared the first and second rounds of the trials and had got a chance to play with Heena Sidhu.”
“Only two girls from Punjab have been selected for the national camp. One is my daughter and second one is from Lambi. If my daughter performs well in the camp, she may get a chance to represent the country in the Youth Shooting World Cup to be held in Indonesia in 2018,” he added.
