Bathinda, January 8
The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) has planned to install open gyms in 10 more parks in the city at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.
The MCB has already taken approval in the General House meeting regarding the expenditure on installing the open gyms in the city.
In the open gyms, machines, including air-walker, sag-spanner, chest-spanner, hip-twister and stepper, paralysis bar, knee chair, shoulder wheel and other equipment, would be installed and people will not be required to pay money to use these machines.
Earlier, the BDA had come up with an open air gym at Dadi-Poti Park in the Model Town area and spent Rs 7 lakh on the project.
Before the elections, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had visited Jogger’s Park, where he expressed his desire to have an open gym.
Acting on his instructions, the MCB planned the project and now, after it got good response, the MCB wants to install exercise equipment in other parks as well.
Later, the MCB extended the project and open gym equipment were installed in four parks in the city. Now, councillors of mostly all wards are demanding open gyms in their areas.
However, it is also a sad reality that after installing open gym equipment at Dadi-Poti Park, no heed was paid to maintain it as it got damaged and remained as such for a long time.
Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said, “Our motive is to promote open gyms for a healthy lifestyle. After installing open gyms in these parks, the MCB would also install open gym equipment in other parks as well. These gyms would prove to be a boon for residents of the area.”
