The Municipal Corporation (MC) is planning to take up a proposal of setting up an open gym again at Jogger’s Park in the city.

The civic body has made a proposal to be taken up at the upcoming general house meeting. In the proposal it has been stated that a large number of people turn up for walk and cycling at the park in the morning and evening daily. In the past, people had many times demanded the opening of an open gym here as these days open gym model is very popular everywhere.

Seeing the demand of residents, the MC has proposed to install an open gym at Jogger’s Park and Rs 11.25 lakh would be spent on installing equipments for all the exercises at the park.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier also the MC had made a proposal for installing a gym at the park last year, but it could not materialise as the model code of conduct had come into force.

It was the desire of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to have a gym for residents at the park. As when he had visited the city in November last year, he had gone to the park, where he expressed his desire to have an open gym in the park.

Acting on the former CM’s desire, the MC had planned to install an air walker; sag spanner, chest spanner, hip twister and stepper, paralysis bar, knee chair, shoulder wheel and various other exercise equipments at the park. The civic body will provide space in the park for the gym.

Earlier, the MC was spending money on installing joy rides and beautification of the parks in the city, but for the first time, it is spending money on installing an open gym in a park.

The MC had made a proposal but failed to start work on it as the poll code had come into force. Later, after the formation of a new government, a ban was imposed on starting new works across the state.

Confirming this, Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said, “Work on an open gym at Jogger’s Park has already been initiated. Besides exercise machines, we will also install acupressure equipment. The proposal has already been prepared, which will be tabled in the general house meeting for the approval.”
