MCB issues challans for littering city

The Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) has started taking action against the residents who litter garbage in the city.

It has started issuing challans to people who keep garbage outside their houses or shops.

Challans are also being issued to people for not placing dustbins where required.

The Municipal Commissioner, in his new instructions, has stated that prior information regarding organising langar and religious function has to be given to the MCB so that cleaning arrangements are made.

It has also been stated that in case prior information is not given and garbage is burnt, the MCB would impose hefty fine on the management or organisers of the event.

On the orders of the Commissioner, the health branch of the corporation has started issuing challans to the people who litter the roads and those who do not use dustbins.

An MCB team, headed by Satish Kumar, chief sanitary inspector, has issued challans to more than 250 shopkeepers and other residents in the past one week.

The team today issued challans to around 10 people at Sunday market at the Amrik Singh road.

Satish Kumar said the team made surprise checks at markets every day.

He said the purpose of issuing challans was to make people aware of cleanliness and to inspire them to use dustbins.

On the orders of the NGT, the corporation has imposed full ban on the use of plastics and disposables used in langars and functions.

The MCB has appealed to gurdwara and temple managers that they should not use disposable items for langar as these are not good for the environment.

According to the orders of the MCB, if any shopkeeper uses a disposable item or plastic utensil, the penalty can be recovered by imposing a challan.

The Commissioner has appealed to the city residents that they should use plates made of leaves in langar.
