Residents of Bathinda and its adjoining areas have been left to sweat as the region is slowly slipping into the grip of a heat wave. The fact is that the temperature increased by 10 degree Celsius in the region during the past week, pointing at the advent of harsh summer this year.
As per the information gathered from the Agro-met Department of the PAU’s regional centre here, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32 degree Celsius on April 7 and within a week, it was recorded at 42 degree Celsius on Saturday.
As per the data, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32 degree Celsius on April 7 while 32.2 degree on April 8 and 31.4 degree on April 9. On April 10, the maximum temperature again registered an increase and was recorded at 33.5 degree Celsius and 37.5 degree Celsius on April 11, 39.5 degree on April 12, 40.4 degree on April 13 and 41.5 degree on April 14.
While the maximum temperature registered a great jump in a week, the minimum temperature also registered several ups and downs in seven days. On April 7, the minimum temperature was registered at 16 degree Celsius and 14.2 degree Celsius on April 8.
On April 9, it was recorded at 11.2 degree while 14 degrees on April 10, 13 degree on April 11 and 16 degree on April 12, registering a jump. On April 13, it was recorded at 15.2 degree Celsius, 18.2 degree on April 14 and 18.4 degree on April 15.
As per the forecast released by the Weather Department, the weather is expected to be dry for the next three-four days.
Rise in demand for air-conditoners, coolers
Early onset of summer and sudden rise in temperature in the region have given a reason to smile to those selling air-conditioners (ACs), inverters, generators and coolers as the demand for these items is expected to go up.
As per a survey conducted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (Assocham), the sale of these electronic items is expected to go up by 35-45 per cent in this season as compared to last year.
